Christian Response to DOGE and Elon, Pt. 1
What is the Christian response to DOGE and Elon? The words are flowing hot and heavy on legacy and social media. (To see the video version, click here)
“Constitutional Crisis.”
“Unelected official.”
Along with that, there are allegations of the cruel starvation of women and children, and good deeds that will go undone if any funding is cut?
What is the appropriate Christian Response to DOGE and Elon?
The Big Picture On DOGE and Elon
The powerhouse book of Ephesians has the clearest overall big picture guidance on the DOGE and Elon.
“Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But if anything becomes exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that become visible is light.” (Eph. 5:11-14)
The challenge when dealing with the U.S. government and the actions of DOGE and Elon is determining who is representing darkness.
DOGE, or the Department of Governmental Efficiency is an advisory board to the President of the United States (POTUS). It was envisioned and created before the election of President Trump in order to deal with the rampant fraud, waste, and abuse of public money.
Fraud, Incorporated
I perceive nearly everyone can comprehend the need to reign in government spending. Having spent two decades in the U.S. Military I can personally testify to the gross waste in the name of national defense. Even in my small part of flying Air Force cargo aircraft, the system was rigged such that if a unit did not spend all of their budgeted money they would be penalized the following year.
This lead to a predictable “buy anything you need” message near the end of every fiscal year. It also led to flying airplanes regardless of mission need. I have heard that in many years past refueling squadrons would go out and dump jet fuel over the ocean–to fail to use your allotted fuel was another “penalty” event.
The fraud that I saw in my small part of the military pales in comparison to what DOGE and Elon have already uncovered.
The question is, should a Christian object to the fraud and theft, or to the uncovering?
Also, if you are not familiar with the Constitution of the United States, see my blog here on The Christian Response to the Trump Administration and in particular to the Christian-Covenantal nature of our chief governing document; The U.S. Constitution. Is the Darkness DOGE or Elon, or…?
Take out your copy of the Constitution and look at something that will clarify the whole issue of whether DOGE, Elon, or someone else is the unfruitful darkness.
Here is the key phrase from the Constitution, found right in the Preamble:
“…and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity…”
That “blessing” of liberty…how is it secured?
The Constitution is an establishment of a government of “We the People.” In other words, we the people “ordain and establish” the limited constitutional form of government, in order to secure liberty for ourselves and future generations.
Part of liberty should be a freedom from excess taxation. Currently, we are spending 100 percent of tax revenue plus taking out loans (called “deficit spending”) and spending that as well.
Who will pay for this spending in the manner of a drunken sailor with an unlimited line of credit? The young people of America will and are suffering.
Who is the darkness? It is not Elon or DOGE.
Education on the Department of Education?
Within this ordaining document are found the very limited powers of Congress, the President, and the Supreme Court. Ever tax levied on the primary government (that’s you and I, the “we the people”) must relate to the specified powers given to the limited government.
For example, the Constitution grants no powers over education to the limited government. Any spending on a federal level on something like a “Department of Education” would constitute a usurpation of the delegated powers.
But here we are. The Department of Education has an annual budget of $90 Billion dollars for 2024. Education, once again is not an area of responsibility given to the federal government by the Constitution. In the founding period of America when there was a high level of literacy (which remained high up until state schooling increasingly became compulsory) education was a local and state issue.
Fraud in the name of Education
In talking with one of my State representatives, here’s how the Department of Education works (or doesn’t).
The government taxes the citizens of Tennessee, heavily. Some of that money goes to the Department of Education ($90 Billion for 2024). Tennessee needs money for educating its kids–but of course the Feds have already taken a lot from parents and other citizens.
In order to get some of that money back, you have to supplicate the Department of Education. I.e., you must comply with their governmental mandates. That means those who are actually paying for the educational process have very little say (in spite of the noise and spectacle of local school boards) in the length of the school day or year, the texts to be used to teach, the general plan to be used, or anything else.
Personally, I trust our local teachers far more than I do an educational elite bureaucrat to decide what is best for training up children. So did the founding fathers.
How does this relate to DOGE and the move to eliminate the Department of Education?
Well, ultimately the big government agency is a control and jobs programs. It is also a way for government officials to channel huge amounts of money into their pockets (and their friends pockets as well).
A Constitutional Crisis with DOGE and Elon?
Hand with me here, yes there is a Constitutional Crisis as some are screaming about.
They are screaming about DOGE and Elon, but the actual crisis started way before either.
Let’s talk about the last four years when we had a President who was not aware of much of anything.
I’m not being critical of former President Joe Biden at all, I am being critical of those who handled him. He was not there.
Someone was running the Executive branch with a guy who had no clue what was going on–in other words, someone was usurping Constitutional authority for the last four years.
That would be called treason, betrayal, and possibly espionage?
I mean, who exactly was running the Executive branch? This was a shadow operation. Was it a foreign, anti-American power?
Will justice be brought to those behind this gross usurpation of power and the betrayal of the trust of American citizens.
I wouldn’t count on it, except that there will come a day when those behind this plot will stand before the living God. We should all pray that thy come clean before that.
So yes, there is one aspect of the Constitutional Crisis that was extant before DOGE and Elon.
What Is the Christian Response to DOGE and Elon?
There is no singular response, but if you want a general answer to how any follower of The Way should act, see the video The Christian Response to the Trump Administration at this link.

But What About Those Executive Orders?
How about the numerous Executive Orders that President Trump is signing in response to the data on fraud coming from DOGE and Elon? He’s been hitting it hard, are they a Constitutional issue?
More on that in Part II of The Christian Response to DOGE and Elon.
Stevo out…
